In mutliball stapleforth format, where should players best stand whilst a teammate, who is also an opponent for the singles format, is putting?

Should it be directly in front of the putt behind the hole, or directly behind the player putting?

I saw both options employed at the Brizzle, wondered what the Captain's opinion of this was.
